the lovely bones triptych-thefilmbook-

I finally saw this superb 2009 film by Peter Jackson. The Lovely Bones combines the thriller, fantasy and coming-of-age genres in a unique tapestry of teenage memories and glimpses of an afterlife full of darkness and light.

Saoirse Ronan is powerful as the heroine Susie Salmon, and Stanley Tucci plays a deeply disturbing bad guy. The Lovely Bones has incredible effects by the team at Weta, beautiful cinematography by Andrew Lesnie, and great music — including one of my favorites: Song to the Siren sung by the Cocteau Twins.

If you haven’t seen this movie, do.

This is my favorite Peter Jackson film.
Although it’s just a “small” movie, it moves me more than The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
